COLUMBUS, Ohio — Nationwide Children's Hospital has announced the return of its "Light Up the Lawn, Light Up a Life" campaign that features dozens of light-up butterflies covering their lawn.
This marks the third year of the campaign that is designed to brighten the holidays for children hospitalized at NCH, their families and the healthcare workers at the hospital.
The display of over 100 butterflies will be launched Tuesday evening during the Grand Illumination on the hospital's south lawn along Livingston Avenue and will continue to be on display throughout the holiday season.
The event is not open to the public, but you can watch the butterflies illuminate here.
Butterflies will also be featured at the Columbus Commons, Easton Town Center, Polaris Fashion Place, Dublin’s Bridge Park and John Glenn Columbus International Airport.
A donation of any dollar amount made will illuminate the butterflies. Each donation will support research and a patient’s experience during their hospital stay or visit including the Butterfly Paws therapy dog program, Butterfly Wagons for children to travel through the hospital and toys and items that help provide comfort.
Specific donation amounts will help fund certain opportunities – in addition to lighting the lawn – to make a difference for patients:
- A $100 donation could fund the bell-ringing celebration of a child finishing their last chemo treatment.
- A $500 donation could fund a toy closet on one floor of the hospital for a month.
- A $1,000 donation could fund a scholarship for a summer camp in a medically safe environment.
- A $1,500 donation could fund a butterfly wagon that is used in the hospital to transport patients and their belongings throughout the hospital.
Donations can be made here now through Dec. 31.
