COLUMBUS--Nationwide Children's Hospital is naming a new research facility in honor of Abigail Wexner.

The hospital is dedicating the institute as the Abigail Wexner Research Institute at Nationwide Children's Hospital.

Wexner spent more that 25 years on the board of directors at the hospital and helped lead the hospital through its largest expansion that lead to a more than $1.2 billion regional economic impact.

The hospital says Wexner helped the hospital become one of the leading health care systems in the United States for pediatrics.

The hospital says the new research institute is dedicated to "basic, clinical, translational and health services research that allows rare investigational opportunities in genomics, tissue engineering and gene therapy."

The dedication will be taking place Tuesday morning at 11:30 at Nationwide Children's Hospital.

The hospital will also honor retiring CEO Dr. Steve Allen by establishing the Allen Distinguished Scholar in Pediatrics award. This will be presented to a researcher at the hospital who "exemplifies the innovative spirit that has been the hallmark of Dr. Allen's tenure."
