COLUMBUS, Ohio — Nationwide Children’s Hospital was placed on lockdown after reports were made of a man armed with an assault rifle Tuesday afternoon.
10TV has a crew on the scene that is reporting a large police presence outside of the hospital with no lights or sirens on. People were seen leaving the hospital around 3:40 p.m. after the lockdown was lifted.
Employees confirmed that the hospital issued a “code silver,” calling for a lockdown shortly after 3 p.m. According to the Columbus Division of Police, officers searched the area extensively and have not located anything.
A hospital spokesperson released a statement saying that they were under lockdown for approximately 40 minutes.
"Our team followed all appropriate protocols. Columbus Police Department responded immediately and reported our situation as all clear with no threat present. We have returned to normal operations," the statement read.
It’s unclear where the reports originated.
