It's about to be an all new experience for patients at Mount Carmel East Hospital. A new patient tower opens next month.
The new building is six floors with 128 beds. All of the rooms are single rooms. Staff worked with the architects to ensure the design is efficient and focused on patient care.
“A lot of attention paid to safety and patient comfort,” said CEO Michael Wilkins. “We’ve also tried to create work flows and use technology to keep caregivers as close to the patient as possible.”
Nurses stations have been decentralized so there is a station outside of every room. Patient rooms are glass so caregivers can see the patients.
Many steps were also taken in the design to eliminate the spread of infection. And operating rooms are bigger to accommodate new technology and more staff in surgeries.
Patients will move into the new building June 2.
