Motorcyclist killed in crash on Route 161 in northeast Columbus

The Accident Investigation Unit is handling the investigation into the crash.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A motorcyclist was killed in a crash on state Route 161 in northeast Columbus on Monday.

According to the Columbus Division of Police, officers were called out to the intersection of Route 161 and Old Dublin Granville Road around 6:17 p.m. for a crash between a motorcycle and a van.

Police said the motorcyclist, identified as 27-year-old Rodrigo Hernandez, was traveling west on Route 161 while the driver of the van was traveling east. Hernandez was turning onto Old Dublin Granville Road when police said motorcycle and van collided and Hernandez was thrown from the motorcycle.

Police said Hernandez was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:41 p.m. The driver of the other van stayed at the scene. No one inside the van was injured.

The Accident Investigation Unit is handling the investigation into the crash.
