Motorcyclist dies after crash with truck in southeast Columbus

Police said the crash happened around 3:10 p.m. in the area of Progress Avenue and Moler Road.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A motorcyclist died after a crash involving a truck in southeast Columbus on Thursday.

The Columbus Division of Police said the crash happened around 3:10 p.m. in the area of Progress Avenue and Moler Road. A Kawasaki motorcycle was traveling north on Progress Avenue while a Ford pickup truck was traveling south.

The Ford attempted to turn left into a private driveway when it hit the motorcyclist. The rider, later identified as 20-year-old Elijah Smith, was ejected from the motorcycle, police said.

Smith was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the truck was taken to Grant Medical Center and their condition was described as stable.

The Accident Investigation Unit responded to the crash scene and began an investigation.
