GAHANNA, Ohio β A battalion chief with the Mifflin Township Fire Department was hospitalized early Sunday morning after his vehicle was hit on Interstate 270, according to a spokesperson for the City of Gahanna.
Officers with the Gahanna Division of Police were called to I-270, between Morse Road and Interstate 670, around 12:10 a.m. for a disabled vehicle. While they were on the scene, the Mifflin Township battalion chief arrived.
The spokesperson said within minutes of his arrival, a vehicle traveling southbound on I-270 struck his vehicle, pushing it into a police cruiser. The battalion chief was taken to a local hospital as a precaution and was later released.
The driver of the vehicle that struck his was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The southbound lanes of the interstate were closed following the crash but have since reopened.
βThis incident serves as a reminder for all drivers to move over when they see first responders, other workers or disabled vehicles on the side of the highway,β the spokesperson wrote in a statement.
