FAYETTE COUNTY, Ohio — The Miami Trace Local School District will be closed on Friday, Jan. 17, due to a high volume of influenza B cases, according to the school district.
The district posted a message to its website and social media, saying there has been a high volume of cases throughout the district. The district says it is working closely with the Fayette County Health Department to monitor the situation.
"As a result, the district will be closed on Friday, January 17, 2020. This will provide four days and the opportunity to thoroughly disinfect our facilities and buses," the message read.
The district says it will be shut down until the start of the school day on Tuesday, Jan. 21. All district activities and contests will be canceled over the weekend, including youth programs.
People are asked to stay out of the school buildings over the weekend as it will "provide four days and the opportunity to thoroughly disinfect our facilities and buses."
The school district did not say how many cases of influenza B were reported.
The district also said on Facebook "all on campus and off campus practices, MS/HS athletic contests home and away, and all youth activities are canceled" during the closure.
