MARION COUNTY, OHIO, Ohio — A 19-year-old man has been sentenced to 17 to 22 1/2 years in prison in connection to a Marion County homicide in 2022, according to the county Prosecutor Raymond Grogan.

Marquise Adams received the maximum sentence for involuntary manslaughter, a gun specification and tampering with evidence related to the disposal of the weapon used in the crime.

Adams was arrested in Michigan in January and charged with the murder of 17-year-old Anthony Jamear Douglas.

The incident occurred just after midnight on Aug. 20, 2022 in the 500 block of Adams Street.

The prosecutor's office said that the two men were having a dispute over rap music when Adams shot Douglas. When officers arrived to the scene, they found Douglas suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to Marion General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The judge responsible for the sentencing pointed out that Adams had multiple opportunities to not engage with the victim, but decided to confront him anyway.
