Marion County Sheriff's Office arrests inmate after escape

MARION COUNTY, Ohio — The Marion County Sheriff's Office attempting to locate an inmate who they say escaped from a corrections officer on Wednesday.

According to the sheriff's office, 29-year-old Christopher Rife was at a dentist appointment on Marion Mt. Gilead Road when he ran from the building.

He was seen running from the area and entered a Walmart. Video footage showed Rife entering the store and leaving at around 11:50 a.m.

He is described to be 6'0", 175 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes. He also has two teardrop tattoos on the corner of his right eye.

He was last seen wearing a black Carhartt hoodie, a yellow shirt, blue jeans and white tennis shoes.

Rife was sentenced in 2018 to the Southeastern Correctional Facility Institution for burglary. He was put on post release controls and was transferred to the West Central Community Correctional Facility on Feb. 25.

Anyone who sees him should not approach him and should call 911 immediately.
