MARION COUNTY, Ohio — A man is the first in Marion County and among the first in Ohio to be sentenced under the Reagan Tokes Act.

According to court documents, 26-year-old Joshua Glass pleaded guilty to felonious assault, a felony of the second degree. It’s also a Reagan Tokes Act offense. He intentionally hit someone with his car and fled from police.

On Wednesday, July 10, the Reagan Tokes Act allowed the judge to sentence violent offenders like Glass to a range of years in prison, not a set term. So, if Glass misbehaves in prison — as Brian Golsby, Reagan Tokes' killer, did — he will spend more time behind bars.

Glass was sentenced Wednesday to a range of 4 to 6 years.

The bill covers only a portion of the once-proposed Reagan Tokes Act and leaves out key provisions that the Tokes family and bill sponsors hoped would be included.

For example, the bill leaves out provisions that would have required the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction to reduce parole officer workloads and other provision that would have required the department to expand a statewide GPS program to monitor offenders.

Golsby was wearing an ankle monitor at the time of Tokes’ killing.
