COLUMBUS, Ohio — People put on their walking shoes Saturday morning to help stop distracted driving by taking part in Maria’s Walk at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium.
“This is great, this is great. The support and so forth to be up at 6:30 in the morning, that's wonderful,” said participant Trish Moore.
Maria's walk was held in the Columbus Zoo in honor of Maria Tiberi, who was killed in a car crash in 2013.
“This is a reflection of just how important this is and what a big challenge it is. It's very tempting to engage in distracted driving because it feels like we're not moving in a car, but in the span of five seconds, a car travels in an enormous amount of distance,” said participant Cornell Robertson.
Maria’s family and her father, 10TV's Dom Tiberi, holds events like this and driving courses in hopes of raising awareness to end distracted driving.
The message is a topic that is dear to many people's hearts.
