COLUMBUS, Ohio — A 70-year-old man was sentenced to at least 11 years in prison for fatally stabbing his sister in the South Hilltop neighborhood last year, according to Franklin County Prosecuting Attorney Gary Tyack.
Michael Wright pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in the Franklin County Court of Common Pleas Tuesday. Judge Kim Brown immediately sentenced Wright and handed him a sentence of 11 to 16.5 years in prison with 380 days already served.
The stabbing happened May 7, 2023, in the 1900 block of Vaughn Street, near West Mound Street. Officers with the Columbus Division of Police found 66-year-old Rhonda Jones inside a home with multiple stab wounds.
Jones was taken to the hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
Police arrested Wright a short distance from the stabbing scene.
Columbus Police Chief Elaine Bryant said after the stabbing last year that it was deemed as domestic violence, as Wright and Jones are brother and sister.
