OSHP: Man riding scooter killed in Knox County crash

Alcohol and drugs are not a suspected factor in the crash.

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio — A 73-year-old man was killed in a two-vehicle crash in Knox County Thursday afternoon.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 4:40 p.m. on Columbus Road in Mount Vernon.

Robert Staats was driving a Suzuki Burgman 650 scooter northeast on the Road when a Kenworth T880, traveling behind him, failed to keep distance and hit the back of the scooter.

Staats was pronounced dead on the scene by medics. OSHP says the driver of the truck was not injured in the crash.

Alcohol and drugs are not a suspected factor in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
