Man killed in officer-involved shooting in south Columbus

Columbus police are investigating an officer-involved shooting in south Columbus Wednesday.

Columbus police are investigating an officer-involved shooting in south Columbus Wednesday.

Police said they were conducting a traffic stop at a gas station in the 1500 block of Lockbourne Road.

When officers were trying to get 32-year-old Jason Christian out of the car, police said one officer had his arm locked with the person in the car.

Police said Christian then put the car in drive and hit the accelerator.

Police said the car dragged one of the officers then turned to the left which caused the officer to hit a parked car.

According to police, the officer then fired his gun multiple times and at least one gunshot hit Christian while the car was still moving.

Christian was taken to Grant Medical Center where he died.

Police said the officer was treated for injuries to his leg and arm.

According to police, Christian had multiple warrants out of Whitehall related to suspected traffic offenses.

Police said Christian also had warrants out of Columbus for alleged thefts from cars.

Police said Christian was not armed with a weapon.
