COLUMBUS, Ohio — A man was killed in a crash on Interstate 70 on the city’s east side early Sunday after the vehicle he was in struck a barrier and was later struck by a semi-trailer, according to the Columbus Division of Police.
Police say that around midnight, a Dodge Dart was traveling westbound on I-70, approaching the exit ramp for Interstate 270, when it struck a concrete traffic barrier at the ramp and spun into the lanes of I-70.
After hitting the barrier, the Dodge was disabled and no longer had working lights.
According to police, 29-year-old Kiare Harris, who was the passenger in the Dodge, got out of the vehicle and was found alongside the passenger side of the vehicle.
Several minutes later, police said a Kenworth semi struck the Dodge on the passenger side.
Harris was severely injured and pronounced dead at the scene by responding medics. The driver of the Dodge was taken to Mount Carmel East and is expected to survive.
The driver of the semi was not injured in the crash. Police said they remained at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
