MANSFIELD, Ohio -- A man was killed Tuesday and a 12-year-old boy was injured in a crash involving a motorcycle and a truck in Mansfield.

The crash happened in the 400 block Park Avenue West of around 4:30 p.m.

Mansfield police say the motorcyclist, identified as 30-year-old Brandon Polak, was traveling westbound on Park Avenue West when he struck the rear driver's side area of a Ford F550 truck. At the time, the driver of the truck was attempting to complete a left-hand turn onto Park Avenue West.

Both occupants on the motorcycle, Polak and his 12-year-old male passenger, were ejected at impact. Polak was pronounced dead at the scene and the boy was transported to a nearby hospital in what is believed to be non-life threatening injuries, according to police.

Police say the 12-year-old boy was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash but Polak was not.

The driver of the Ford truck and his passenger were not injured.

Mansfield patrol officers and a Mansfield Police crash reconstructionist at the scene were assisted by the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The crash remains under investigation and no charges have been filed at this time.
