Man indicted for murder of 12-year-old Newark girl deemed mentally unfit to stand trial

NEWARK, Ohio - An 18-year-old accused of killing a 12-year-old girl in June is mentally ill, according to court records.

On June 21, Isabella Barnes was shot on the front porch of her home on Ridgelawn Avenue and transported to Licking Memorial Hospital where she later died.

Keegan Mummey was indicted on charges of rape, tampering with evidence and aggravated murder.

On July 15, an examiner of the forensic psychiatry center was handed the case to determine if Mummey was mentally fit to go to trial.

On Friday, Licking County Common Pleas court determined that Mummey was mentally ill. He is now undergoing treatment at Twin Valley Behavioral Healthcare.

According to court records, the case is now closed.
