Man found unconscious with severe head injuries in Grandview has died, family says

Stephen Albright was found unconscious near the train tracks on West 5th Avenue in Grandview Heights.

GRANDVIEW HEIGHTS, Ohio — James Albright sat in disbelief and was filled with questions.

The only one he wants answered is why. Why would anyone want to hurt his brother Stephen Albright?

“I don't think I've ever had this feeling ever before. I've never lost a brother,” said Albright.

According to Grandview Heights police, his brother was found by officers and medics unconscious on the train tracks near West 5th Avenue, just east of Dublin Road. Stephen was suffering from severe head injuries and was taken to The Ohio State Wexner Medical Center in critical condition.

Stephen said that his brother died in the hospital Friday morning surrounded by friends and family.

"I can't understand how in a world when we have so much division that somebody who caused nobody any pain and nobody any harm as his personal mantra would suffer this kind of fate.”

Albright said his brother joined the Peace Corps and that’s where he met his wife. He’s a father to two girls.

"My brother was the best of us. He was as clean of a soul as there could be,” said Albright.

Albright said Stephen dropped off his daughter at practice and was on a run before he was found unconscious.

Information surrounding what happened to him is limited, but police are asking for the public's help in identifying two people who were seen on bicycles around the time he was injured.

Police released two short video surveillance clips showing two people on bicycles riding around where the incident took place. The first video, timestamped around 7:40 p.m., shows a person wearing dark clothing riding by. The second video, timestamped at 7:48 p.m., shows a person wearing a red and white jacket.

Police say they "have reason to believe" the two may have been traveling together, and they are investigating this as a felonious assault.

Stephen's family set up a GoFundMe that can be found here.

Anyone with information or additional surveillance footage is asked to contact Grandview police at 614-461-8477.
