Man fatally struck by car while crossing street in west Columbus

The Columbus Police Accident Investigation Unit is investigating the crash.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A man was fatally struck by a vehicle while crossing a street in west Columbus Tuesday night.

According to the Columbus Division of Police, 42-year-old Michael Waskel was attempting to cross West Broad Street near Rockbrook Crossing Avenue outside of a marked crosswalk around 9:15 p.m.

Waskel was in the eastbound lanes of West Broad when he was struck by a Dodge Charger. The driver of the Charger stayed at the scene.

Waskel was transported to Doctors Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 9:43 p.m.

The Columbus Police Accident Investigation Unit is investigating the crash.
