Delaware County sheriff identifies man who died after being hit by vehicle; suspect in custody

Joshua Harper was charged with murder. Investigators say he and Matthew Cox were acquaintances.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office identified a 37-year-old man who died after being hit by a vehicle in Harlem Township on Tuesday. A 19-year-old man was arrested in his death.

Around 12:15 p.m., the sheriff’s office received several calls from witnesses saying Joshua Harper and Matthew Cox were involved in a verbal dispute that escalated near the intersection of Fancher and Miller-Paul roads. Investigators said they were acquaintances.

The sheriff’s office said the dispute escalated and Harper used to strike and run over Cox with his vehicle. Cox was pronounced dead at the scene.

Harper was arrested shortly after. He was charged with murder and being in the Delaware County jail.
