The Hocking County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a man who allegedly stole construction equipment and used it to flip a woman’s vehicle this past weekend.

The sheriff’s office said they received a call Saturday that a large front end loader was flipping over the vehicle on Main Street in Murray City.

Witnesses told authorities that the vehicle then fled north on State Route 216 where it struck another vehicle. One witness followed the front end loader to Murray Timber and Log Company where the operator fled on foot into the woods.

The driver, later identified as 26-year-old Carl H. Williams III, was taken into custody a short time later.

The sheriff’s office said Williams admitted to stealing the vehicle, valued between $60,000-80,000, from Murray Timber and Log Company, where he was an employee.

He also confessed to purposely damaging the car he flipped, which belonged to an acquaintance of his.

Williams was charged with theft of a motor vehicle and taken to the regional jail to await arraignment.

The sheriff’s office said additional charges for criminal damaging, leaving the scene of an accident and operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol are likely to be presented to the grand jury.
