MADISON TOWNSHIP, Ohio – A Madison Township police captain has been demoted to police officer and is on paid administrative leave after several allegations were revealed at a special meeting of Madison Township trustees Monday night.
After meeting in executive session, the trustees said James Dean is accused of engaging in misconduct, engaging in derogatory, vulgar, lewd language and gestures, and making strong sexual innuendos in public and restricted areas in the police station and in the presence of township employees.
The trustees voted to demote Dean and continue his paid administrative leave.
Police Chief Ken Braden and Dean’s father both spoke in support of Dean.
“It's just a shame the amount of money that we put in to make a captain, that we're going to throw that all away. That's taxpayer dollars,” Braden said.
Dean’s father, also named James Dean, said, “For the trustees to take such an extreme sanction for a demotion is what I think is already said. It's a huge travesty. You're destroying a good man that had his heart and soul into this job that was a key element to this police department.”
According to the township website, Dean is a third generation law enforcement officer and has been with the Madison Township Police Department since January of 1998.
The website shows he is also the department’s bagpiper with the ceremonial unit and is a U.S. Army Military Police veteran.
