COLUMBUS, Ohio — The City of Columbus has shut down an after-hours club on the east side where a 39-year-old man was fatally shot last weekend.
City Attorney Zach Klein announced on Friday that Luxxe Lounge on Beechwood Road was shut down after it was operating without a liquor license and was the scene of the shooting death of Dante Gamble on Feb. 11.
Klein said the club was on the city’s radar since last year for illegal after-hours sales and gun-related police runs.
Since Jan. 1, 2023, the Columbus Division of Police received approximately 11 calls for service at the property, including a fight, one person with a gun and two shootings.
“Mixing guns and alcohol is a recipe for disaster, and after the violence at this club over the weekend that left one dead, along with a history of violence, it is time for the City to step in to hold operators accountable and ask the Court to shut this club down,” said Columbus City Attorney Zach Klein. “This club has been on the City’s radar for a number of months, and if the Court agrees, we’ll be able to shut it down and protect the safety of nearby residents and families. No one should have to deal with the kind of recklessness and violence in their neighborhood.”
Former City Attorney Rick Pfeiffer filed a lawsuit in 2027 against the owners of a different after-hours club at the same location. The club’s operators vacated the space and some years later, new owners opened the Luxxe Lounge and have been operating and selling beer and liquor without a license.
