Local immigration attorney discusses immigration sweep

After initial immigration raids across the country were canceled in June, ICE agents began conducting raids in cities across the US on Sunday.

After initial immigration raids across the country were canceled in June, ICE agents began conducting raids in cities across the US on Sunday.

Local immigration attorney Liliana Vasquez says she kept on eye on U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement plans.

“The people that are supposed to be targeted from these raids are those that have outstanding orders of removal and those that have lost their immigration cases,” Vasquez said.

The Columbus based attorney says the lack of clarity regarding who is a target has created panic that Vasquez says she’s seen firsthand.

“I have consultations on a regular basis and one of the consistent questions is what about these immigration raids and am I a target.”

Vasquez says the raids have presented an opportunity for education both who is at risk and general advice on how to deal with law enforcement or immigration agents.

“Even though those raids are meant to target certain cities those same directives that are being used are being applied here in Columbus and all across the nation.”
