The owners of Phia Salon, Phiolosophi Salon and Salt Spa in Clintonville and Sophi Salon in Bexley are keeping their doors closed, but helping clients through technology and distancing.
Megumi Robinson said for herself and maybe others, getting her hair done is more than just about looks. She said for her, it's about doing something for herself and during tough times like now, it's needed.
"It might sound really frivolous, but I think right now more than ever it is so important that we are taking care of ourselves from a mental perspective staying positive and honestly whatever it takes," Robinson said.
That's why Elizabeth Bella, owner of Phia Salon and part-owner of Philosophi Salon & Salt Spa and Sophi Salon, said she and her husband wanted to find a way to help their clients through the new adjustments.
The salons are staying closed and owners, stylists and staff are continuing to follow Governor DeWine and Dr. Amy Acton's guidelines.
Bella and her husband have created a model called Phia Concepts, a service, systems and support partner.
"We went ahead retooled Phia Concepts to go direct to consumers, so we have two top-tiered educators," Bella said.
Clients can talk with one of the educators and stylists over the phone or through video chat of their choice. Also, for a small fee, clients can even order products they need for pick-up or delivery with no contact with anyone.
"We're recommending that if clients are choosing to do anything at home, they do it with at least a consultation," Bella said.
She said the stylist can give tips through the phone or even walk a client through how to cut their own hair. Bella is suggesting to clients to try to avoid dying their at home, but if they absolutely need to, the stylists are there to help.
"We want to be there for them if they're making those sorts of decisions," Bella said.
