Local day care increasing their cleaning and adding additional measures to keep kids safe

LCD Academy in Gahanna is cleaning even more than before and are taking extra measures when it comes to keeping their kids safe.

LCD Academy in Gahanna is cleaning even more than before and is taking extra measures when it comes to keeping their kids safe.

The Center's Director, Kedada Bethel, said the kids will be washing their hands when they go to the restroom before and after, before and after every meal, before and after every activity and when they touch toys.

The center is also focusing on disinfecting everything.

"We bleach and clean down the rooms every night and on the weekends we have someone come in and do additional cleaning," Bethel said.

Over the weekend, Bethel said she sent an email to parents addressing the coronavirus concerns. She also sent tips in the email, pulling information from state health websites, for parents to follow.

She said she's noticed stores are selling out of items quickly or limiting the number of items that are allowed to be purchased. She said she used latex or vinyl gloves a lot and that's been a challenge.

"For someone like me I can go through a roll, a pack of 5 in a week, so now I'm just trying to buy a little more in bulk," Bethel said.

The day care plans on being more strict when it comes to kids who may have any type of illness. She suggests if a child is sick, keep them at home and let them rest.

"Typically if a child has a fever, we make them stay out 24 hours, now we're making them stay out 48 hours if they have a doctor's note," Bethel said.

As we were at the day care, Michael Martin owner of Puroclean in Westerville, was there discussing plans with Bethel.

He said as a cleaning company, their top priority is working with businesses to help them keep their employees and anyone who enters the facility healthy.

"We really have an opportunity to go out and talk to the day cares and share some additional insights and really educate them on the benefits of being proactive as opposed to reactive in terms of disinfecting their centers," Martin said.
