Like everything else in 2020, the Columbus Buddy Walk is going to look a lot different this year.
The Down Syndrome Association of Central Ohio announced Wednesday their signature fundraising event is going virtual.
Columbus had the second largest Buddy Walk last year, with 14,000 people celebrating our local Down syndrome community.
But, COVID-19 forced DSACO to find a new way to have the event this year.
So, families will now participate in "Walk your Way Weekend" on October 3-4 and celebrate their loved one in their own way.
“We just want to do whatever we can to keep our families safe,” DSACO President & CEO Kari Jones said. “With Down syndrome, one in two will have heart defects which means that half of our population, right there, is in a higher risk category and we want to make sure that we're creating an environment at the Buddy Walk, and everything else we're putting on, that makes people feel comfortable and safe.”
This year, 100% of the funds raised during “Walk your Way Weekend” will stay local to central Ohio.
