A dozen children burst through a wall of Legos Friday and in that moment, Legoland Discovery Center opened in central Ohio.
“Some people do ribbon cuttings, but that’s not the way we do things here at Legoland Discovery Center,” said general manager Jacob Kristensen.
“I’m happy to be here,” said 11-year-old Ethan Hughes. “I’ve built a lot of things with Legos. I built a castle and it would explode and stuff.”
Hughes was among a dozen children on a team called the creative crew. The local children have met with Lego Master Builders and took part in the grand opening of the new facility.
The 36,000-square-foot indoor attraction rests within Easton Town Center. Legoland Discovery Center is two levels tall and holds a recommended three hours worth of games, rides and interactive play for children.
Some of the center’s attractions include:
- Kingdom Quest: one of the two rides within Legoland Discovery Center Columbus. Guests use their blasters to zap beasts to save the princess
- Lego play zones: 10 themed areas where Lego fans of all ages can build with Lego bricks
- 4D Cinema: playing short Lego movies
- MiniLand Ohio: an entire room that features large-scale Lego models of iconic landmarks from Columbus, Cleveland and Cincinnati. It is made entirely from Lego bricks
“What you see today is not what you will see the next time you visit. We are constantly adding and changing,” said Kirstiansen. “We'll continue building new things in MiniLand and inside the attraction, to try to stay new all the time.”
He said while this is the 12th Legoland Discovery Center built in North America, only the location in Arizona is larger. It will not close for holidays and will open at 10 a.m. each day. You can read more about these areas on their website.
