Leaves are still green: The best time to see Fall foliage in central Ohio

Some of the best things about Ohio's Autumn season are the rustling of the leaves under your feet, the cooler temperatures and the Fall smell in the air.

Some of the best things about Ohio's Autumn season are the rustling of the leaves under your feet, the cooler temperatures and the Fall smell in the air.

But some people are wondering, where are the Fall colors?

This year the Fall foliage is expected to peak around the week of October 22 in the northeast portion of the state and in central and southern Ohio will peak the last 10 days of October.

This year is different from 2017, when almost all of the country had reached peak or beyond peak by early October.

Warmer temperatures and rain in September is to the reason for the later peak in colors for 2018.

Naturalists say in order for leaves to change color we need dry weather, cool nights and warm days.

"Usually what we like to see to get great fall color is cool crisp nights, nice fall days and a little bit of dryness and this year it hasn't been that way. We've had a lot of rain, it's been warm and humid. We'll still get fall color it just may not be as strong as we get some years," Metro Parks Naturalist Scott Felker Explains.

Some of the best places to see the changing leaf colors in Central Ohio are at High Banks Metro Park, Blendon Woods, Chestnut Ridge, Slate Run and Clear Creek Metro Park.
