Lancaster City Schools closed Monday due to citywide Boil Water Advisory

The city issued a precautionary boil advisory on Saturday for customers served by the Lancaster public water system.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — All schools in the Lancaster City Schools district are closed on Monday as the city works to fix an ongoing problem with its water system.

The city issued a precautionary boil advisory on Saturday for customers served by the Lancaster public water system. Residents are asked to boil their water before drinking, making ice, brushing their teeth, washing dishes or preparing food. A rolling boil of one minute is sufficient.

Lancaster City Schools' Superintendent Nathan Hale posted on Facebook late Sunday, saying that due to the current water situation, schools would be canceled on Monday.

“We have been closely monitoring the current City of Lancaster water situation. Unfortunately, the ongoing boil order will hinder our ability to provide our students with clean water during the school day tomorrow for hygiene, hydration, and lunchtime needs. Therefore, we feel the best course of action is to cancel school tomorrow, Monday, November 25th. We understand that this is inconvenient for families, but we hope that providing an alert this evening will allow families to make alternative arrangements,” the statement read.

The city said the advisory will remain in effect until “bacteriological samples confirm no contamination has occurred.”

Anyone who needs additional information is asked to call the water treatment facility at 740-687-6631 or 740-687-6650.
