COLUMBUS, Ohio — After hours of searching, the investigation stemming from viral TikTok videos is over in east Columbus.
The Columbus Division of Police said no human or animal remains were found at the home of Katie Santry after she made a strange discovery in her backyard.
This all started when Santry found a rug buried in her backyard. At the urging of her followers, she reached out to police and they initiated an investigation.
“It surprised me, I heard about it on the news and social media. But, I didn’t know it was right in my backyard,” said neighbor Kimara Johnson.
The viral video led to dozens of police officers investigating.
The officers dug in the backyard for three hours on Friday afternoon to try and find out what, if anything, was in the ground.
They used shovels and an excavator to help with the dig.
“They roped off the cul-de-sac. I said ‘Oh.' I saw police out all night and I said, ‘That’s interesting,’” said neighbor Gregory Napier.
Pieces of the carpet came out of the ground. But, that’s it. Nothing else was found.
“I’m relieved, relieved. This is all crazy. It’s weird. It all comes from TikTok. So, yeah just relieved it’s still a solid neighborhood,” said Johnson.
All of the attention came as a shock to the people who live in the East Columbus neighborhood.
Napier goes on a walk every morning around 7 a.m. He’s lived in the neighborhood for 20 years and has not seen anything like this investigation.
“It’s (typically) extremely quiet. This is the loudest it’s been in a long, long time. It’s disturbing and alarming. It caught me by surprise,” said Napier.
Napier said the Ravenwood neighborhood has been around since 1965. He loves his neighbors and community.
“We don’t like this attention, but now we have it. So, here it is,” he said. “It’s a tight-knit community and we all pretty much know each other."
