COLUMBUS, Ohio — For the first time in the trial of former Franklin County Sheriff's deputy Jason Meade, body camera video from the day Casey Goodson Jr. was shot and killed was shown to jurors.
When Columbus Police Detective Arthur Hughes was called to the stand to testify on Monday, he said it was at the intersection in front of St. Mathias Church where Goodson drove his Nissan Versa the day of the shooting in December 2020.
In court, a video was shown to jurors of Meade in his unmarked truck, and the two vehicles crossing paths. Then video shows Meade make a U-turn to follow Goodson with another officer following behind.
Jurors also were shown never-before-seen bodycam footage from a Minerva Park police officer who responded to an "officer in trouble" call.
Due to the Franklin County Sheriff's Office not having body cameras, Meade was not wearing one at the time of the shooting.
In the video from the Minerva Park officer, Meade was seen standing on the Goodson family's front porch immediately after the shooting. Meade can be heard directing medics and explaining to another officer what he thought happened.
Later on in the fourth day of trial, several first responders were called up to the stand to testify.
Those witnesses discussed the process of Goodson being taken to the hospital, the clothes he was wearing at the time, forensic testing and results on both Meade and Goodson's guns and also testing that was done on Goodson's AirPods.
There were several questions about the holster Goodson was wearing at the time.
The state is expected to rest its case on Tuesday. The court could also hear from the first defense witnesses.
