Former Franklin County deputy charged with rape ordered to stay away from alleged teen victim

Charles Davis was charged with 58 felonies including rape and gross sexual imposition. The alleged victim was under 13 years old at the time.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Former Franklin County Sheriff’s Deputy Charles Davis appeared before a judge in Ross County on Monday after the family of an alleged victim asked the judge to reconsider his decision to allow him to be released on bond.

Davis was charged with 58 felonies including rape and gross sexual imposition. The alleged victim was under 13 years old at the time.

He was released on his own recognizance and has since been fired from the sheriff’s office.

The victim, now 16 years old, and his mother asked the judge to reconsider that decision and set more protections along with a monetary bond.

“When I found out he got an ROR bond I was quite upset and scared. I already had missed a few school functions because he had knowledge of what was going on and I did not want him to come after me and hurt me and punish me for coming forward,” the victim said.

“My son is scared daily that he may retaliate since coming forward, my son has to keep his head on a swivel and make sure he isn't being followed,” said the victim’s mother.

The judge agreed to a temporary protection order. Davis was ordered to stay at least 500 yards away from the victim and his family.

He did not order a monetary bond since he said Davis has complied with the conditions of his bond including GPS monitoring and is not a flight risk.

A trial is scheduled for March 4-7.
