As many of you may know, I'm retiring from 10TV News this month. My last day on the air will be next Tuesday at 6. I've enjoyed a great 45-year career with the Dispatch Broadcast Group. I've been blessed to travel the world pursuing stories.
I'll be sharing some of my favorites with you. In 1991, I had the good fortune of being the first central Ohio TV reporter to travel to Saudi Arabia during the first Persian Gulf War.
Operation Desert Shield was the build-up for Desert Storm, the mission to dislodge Iraqi Dictator Saddam Hussein from Kuwait.
I went into the desert with an army reserve unit from Marion. As those soldiers quickly discovered, their base - in a dusty place called tent city - took a lot of getting used to.
Ultimately, the 79th Quartermaster company spent almost a year in the war zone. The unit suffered one casualty in a non-combat accident.
