As many of you may know, I'm retiring from 10TV News this month. My last day on the air will be next Tuesday at 6. I've enjoyed a great 45-year career with the Dispatch Broadcast Group. I've been blessed to travel the world pursuing stories.

I'll be sharing some of my favorites with you. In 1996, I went to Tokyo to find out why Japanese students are among the highest achieving in the world. They consistently outperform many others, especially in math and science.

As I found out, there's a method to growing smart kids, the Japanese way.

The downside of all this scholastic excellence is a high rate of suicide among Japanese school students that remains today.

A Japanese government report found that between 2016 and 2017, 250 elementary and high school children took their own lives for reasons including bullying, stress and family issues.
