COLUMBUS, Ohio - Firefighters are investigating the cause of a fire near Oak Street and 5th Street in downtown Columbus Saturday night.

Columbus Division of Fire Battalion Chief Steve Martin said trash from a building under construction was on fire.

A 10TV crew at the scene also witnessed a burning vehicle at the site.

Heavy smoke filled the surrounding streets as crews worked to put out the flames. The fire was first reported at approximately 9:20 p.m. and has since been contained.

While the official cause of the fire is still unknown, Martin said witnesses told the fire investigation unit it "was set by rioters.”

Martin also said, "due to the current circumstance of civil unrest, it is impossible for us to do an accurate investigation at this time."

There is a citywide curfew for Columbus from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. that began Saturday night after three days of protests in the city.
