ORIENT, Ohio — An inmate who died while being involved in an incident at the Correctional Reception Center in Orient has been identified.
The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation & Correction said two female officers were trying to remove Michael McDaniel, 55, from his cell Saturday afternoon when he "became combative."
The two officers were injured during the incident and taken to a hospital. They have since been treated and released.
ODRC said McDaniel declined to be treated in the infirmary but collapsed a short time later. He was later pronounced dead at Mount Carmel Grove City.
McDaniel was admitted on Jan. 26 for aggravated assault in Franklin County.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating.
The names of the officers have not been released.
