LOGAN COUNTY, Ohio — Midway is one of the most impacted areas from the EF3 tornado in Logan County last week.
Steve Dearwester has lived in Midway at Indian Lake for 30 years. After the tornado hit, his mobile home was reduced to almost nothing.
“It’s hard for me to wrap my mind around the whole thing,” said Dearwester.
He was watching a movie Thursday night when the tornado came barreling right through his mobile home. His neighbor's mobile home then flipped onto his home. Dearwester said it was shocking and he didn’t expect to lose everything.
“My glass doors blew in at the kitchen and I’m sitting against a wall. The wall behind me was gone. The roof was gone above me and I’m just sitting in my recliner,” he said.
He said he is thankful to be alive.
“I’ve been crying. I’m OK for awhile then the tears start coming,” said Dearwester.
Although everything in his home is ruined, he is healthy and alive. Dearwester said he feels like someone was looking out for him.
“I didn’t get a scratch, you know. Next thing I know I’m sitting there getting all wet and I’m trying to wrap my head around what just happened. All I can do is thank God that I’m alive. He could’ve taken me,” said Dearwester.
The tornado will not take him away from the Indian Lake community. He has lived by the lake his whole life, and he said he wants to stay there. Now, he is looking forward to the future and re-building his home in Midway.
“They are going to pick it up Wednesday and get it out of there. Get that place cleaned up then my plan is I’m going to get another trailer and put it back there,” said Dearwester.
