LOGAN COUNTY, Ohio — A 17-year-old girl was killed when a driver who may have been impaired collided head-on with her vehicle, according to the Logan County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash happened shortly before 10 a.m. Thursday at County Road 130 and Township Road 56 in McArthur Township.
A 2000 Ford F150 was traveling north on County Road 130 when she traveled left of center and into the path of a 2011 Honda CR-Z driven by 17-year-old Chloe Hodge, of Bellefontaine. The two vehicles collided head-on.
Hodge ultimately died from injuries sustained in the crash. The other driver was taken to Riverside Methodist Hospital with serious injuries, but police described her as stable.
The driver was cited for going left of center, but detectives suspect she may have been impaired or under the influence at the time of the crash. The sheriff's office said charges pending as they await the results of a blood test.
Hodge was a junior at Indian Lake High School and part of the Ohio Hi-Point Career Center health career academy.
“We extend our love and prayers to her family, all of her friends and her classmates in the Class of 2025,” the career center said in a statement.
"Chloe was a bright light who always wanted to help people. She was smart, funny, and always quick to lend a hand. Chloe continues to help others as an organ and tissue donor," a statement from the school read in part.
Counseling services will be available at Ohio Hi-Point and Indian Lake High School on Monday morning.
The school said on Thursday, the day of her services, students and staff of the high school and career center are asked to wear her favorite color, lavender, in her honor.
The Waynesfield Police Department said Hodge is the second student to have died in a crash in less than two months. In December, 17-year-old Nolan Purk – who was also a junior at Indian Lake High School – died in a single-vehicle crash.
