COLUMBUS, Ohio — Imagine Productions of Columbus returns to the stage this weekend with their take on the beloved musical "The Addams Family."
An original story about the creepy and kooky titular family, the musical tells a tale of love as morbid daughter Wednesday gets engaged and navigates the friction between her fiancé's family and her famously macabre kin.
"The thing that I really love about The Addams Family - not just the show, but just [the] characters in general - yes, they're odd to most people, but embracing that oddness and weirdness is what makes us as people interesting and fun," said the production's director Melody Wojno. "So, they're just the same as any other family; they have more love and devotion than anybody else because they love and embrace themselves in all of their factors, all their weirdness, all the kookiness."
Originally debuting on Broadway in 2010, "The Addams Family" boasts music by famed composer and current Columbus resident Andrew Lippa. The look of this production is defined by the intense choreography, excellent costuming, and emphasis on makeup design.
"This cast is incredible," said Wojno. "From the first table read, they all meshed instantly; everybody is so loving. It truly is like [a] family."
Imagine Productions' "The Addams Family" runs through Feb. 25 at the Columbus Performing Arts Center in downtown Columbus. For a link to showtimes and ticket information, check out their website here.
