Child hospitalized after house fire in west Columbus

Columbus Fire Battalion Chief Jeffrey Geitter said two firefighters were trapped inside the basement, but they were able to escape without needing treatment.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A child was hospitalized as firefighters worked to contain a fire at a home in west Columbus Friday morning.

The Columbus Division of Fire was called to the 3500 block of Harding Drive, just south of National Road Southwest, around 9 a.m.

Columbus Fire Battalion Chief Jeffrey Geitter said two firefighters were trapped inside the basement and almost ran out of air, but they were able to escape without needing treatment.

Columbus fire said a child was taken to Nationwide Children’s Hospital and their condition was described as stable.

The fire is contained, but it is unknown how it started at this time.
