Ohio lawmakers introduce bill that would repeal HB 6

Ohio House Republicans and some Democrats will hold a press conference Thursday to talk about the introduction of the legislation.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Two Ohio House Democrats,Rep. Michael Skindell from Lakewood and Rep. Michael O'Brien from Warren, said Wednesday they are going to introduce a bill that would repeal House Bill 6.

On Thursday, two Ohio House Republicans, Mark Romanchuk from Ontario and Laura Lanese from Grove City, held a press conference to discuss the introduction of the legislation.

HB 6 is now at the center of a $60 million federal bribery investigation.

Charged in that investigation are Ohio House Speaker Larry Householder, Jeff Longstreth, Neil Clark, Matt Borges and Juan Cespedes.

HB 6, a roughly $1 billion financial bailout for Ohio's two nucelar power plants, was signed into law in July 2019.

It added a new fee to every electricity bill in the state and directed over $150 million a year through 2026 to the plants near Cleveland and Toledo. 

Federal prosecutors allege that from March 2017 to March 2020, Householder and others received millions of dollars in exchange for help in passing HB 6.
