Honor Flight Columbus to hit major milestone next month by flying 10,000th veteran to Washington D.C.

The nonprofit organization provides WWII and Vietnam War veterans with the opportunity to tour the nation's capital.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Honor Flight Columbus is set to hit a major milestone next month.

The organization announced it will fly its 10,000th veteran to Washington D.C. on Oct. 10.

The nonprofit organization provides World War II and Vietnam War veterans with the opportunity to tour the nation's capital and visit war memorials dedicated to their service and Arlington National Cemetery.

“An Honor Flight is a very small token of our appreciation for what our senior Veterans have done. We carry a debt of gratitude to all who served—a debt that can never be repaid. Veterans come home knowing that the people of this country love and respect them,” said Executive Director Beth Johnson.

During the trip, veterans are surprised with spontaneous acts of kindness performed by school students, tourists and other grateful Americans. The day ends with a Welcome Home Celebration at John Glenn Columbus International Airport.

"We could never have reached this milestone if it were not for the willingness of thousands of Veterans to share their stories with us. Our 10/10 flight remembers these Veterans as well as the thousands of volunteers and donors whose dedication to Honor Flight Columbus makes our flights possible. We look forward to flying the next 10,000 Veterans and beyond," the organization wrote in a release.
