Hardbarger reportedly barricaded himself inside a home on July 30 as the Hocking County Sheriff’s Office and several other local law enforcement agencies responded to a domestic violence call at the home. He allegedly fired at an officer before he was taken into custody.
A bullet grazed a deputy and hit a Logan Police Department K-9 in the head.
Records from Hocking County Municipal Court state that Hardbarger had threatened to kill a woman and two children while holding a shotgun.
Court records add that the woman told police Hardbarger would not let her leave the home and broke her phone when she attempted to call 911. Records also state that Hardbarger allegedly choked the woman to the point where she almost lost consciousness.
A grand jury indicted him on the following counts:
- One count of kidnapping
- One count of attempted aggravated murder
- 15 counts of felonious assault
- One count of assaulting a police dog
- One count of discharge of a firearm on or near prohibited premises
- Two counts of vandalism
- One count of domestic violence.
Several of the charges carry additional firearm specifications, according to Yost’s office.
A preliminary hearing is expected next week.
