Historic Columbus building to be demolished

The old McNabb Funeral Home at E. Long Street and Talmadge will be demolished within the next 30 days.

The owner of a historic building in Columbus has plans to knock it down, but some neighbors don't like the idea.

The old McNabb Funeral Home at East Long Street and Talmadge Street will be demolished within the next 30 days.

The structure was built in the 1920's. The corporation that now owns the property, Columbus Next Generation, says it would like to include the community on development.

"As an organization, I want to put forth the best project we possibly can for the community. I think the community deserves it. I think it needs to be a top shelf class A project that is financially feasible and sustainable for long term," Executive Director Boyce Safford said.

Safford says he doesn't know yet what will be developed to replace it, but he hopes to use pieces of the McNabb Funeral Home to incorporate with a new design.
