COLUMBUS, Ohio — A woman is in critical condition after she was pulled from an apartment fire in the Hilltop neighborhood on Wednesday, according to the Columbus Division of Fire.
The fire happened in the 2400 block of West Broad Street at North Eureka Avenue sometime before 12:30 p.m. The blaze was called out as a second-alarm fire.
Thick plumes of smoke were seen coming from the second floor of the building as firefighters responded to the blaze. There are approximately five businesses on the first floor and apartments on the second floor.
Columbus Fire Battalion Chief Jeff Geitter said the woman pulled from the building was taken to The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in critical condition.
Firefighters had to get everyone out of the apartment building due to damage to the upper floor.
The fire was not under control as of 12:55 p.m. Investigators did not say what may have caused the fire.
