HILLIARD, Ohio — A 15-year-old girl was arrested for jokingly sending a text to a student that she saw someone walking with a gun in a hallway at Hilliard Bradley High School on Tuesday, according to records from the city.
The City of Hilliard says a school resource officer and the high school's administration were alerted about a potential safety threat, prompting a lockdown. Memorial Middle and Brown Elementary schools were placed on lockdown as a precautionary measure since the high school is nearby. All three schools are located on Walker Road in Hilliard.
Officers searched the school and determined that there was no threat. Records say that the teenage girl sent a text to a student, saying she saw another student walking with a gun in the hallway. The records also say the girl claimed she sent the text as a joke.
The girl was arrested and charged with inducing panic, a second-degree felony.
"We encourage parents to remind their children that there is no such thing as a joke when it comes to school safety," the city said in a release.
