Columbus Public Health has closed down a restaurant located at the Polaris Fashion Place food court after finding several violations in an inspection Wednesday.
The health department investigated Yihi Japan after receiving a complaint about the restaurant and says no violations pertaining to that complaint were found.
However, Columbus Public Health did conduct a standard inspection on the facility and tells 10TV based upon the violations they found, the "restaurant was issued a red sign and closed."
The observations the health department reported included water backing up through floor drains, improper storage of food in the cooler and freezer and the presence of cockroaches and flies around the facility.
To conclude the report’s findings, the health department says the "cockroach infestation was significant enough to warrant closure."
Washington Prime Group, the owner of Polaris Fashion Place, released a statement Wednesday regarding the report:
"We are working closely with the Columbus Public Health Department as they investigate this incident. Washington Prime Group, the owner of Polaris Fashion Place, is currently evaluating the option of not renewing a lease with this tenant."
