COLUMBUS, Ohio- An 18-year-old student at Walnut Ridge High School is charged after police said he brought a gun to school.
According to records filed in Franklin County Municipal Court, a school resource officer was alerted on Feb. 2 that a 16-year-old student may have a gun in a book bag.
A security officer checked the bag and found a Ruger handgun as well as a loaded magazine in the student’s pocket.
Then police learned another student, Darin Lurry, may have brought the handgun to school and had either sold or given the gun to the 16-year-old, according to court records.
A detective interviewed Lurry who admitted to meeting the other student in the boys' bathroom with the intention of selling the gun for $120. Lurry is charged as an adult.
He is facing a fifth-degree felony charge of illegally conveying a deadly weapon in a school zone.
It is unclear what charges the other student is facing.
